1.6.2001

U.S. Robotics Corporation today announced a strategic agreement with Broadcom Corporation, the leading provider of highly integrated silicon solutions that enable broadband digital transmission of voice, video and data. U.S. Robotics plans to bring to market cable modems and Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) compliant products by the second quarter of 2001 and develop future, cutting-edge communications technologies, based on Broadcom's chips.

"U.S. Robotics is aggressively pursuing technology that will enhance its Internet access products and provide customers reliable access to the information they need," said Van M. Andrews, President and CEO of U.S. Robotics. "This agreement with Broadcom has long-term strategic implications for both companies. U.S. Robotics will have access to Broadcom's leading technology, and Broadcom will benefit from U.S. Robotics' No. 1 selling brand, channel relationships and consumer products experience."

"Broadcom's leading high-speed networking chip technology combined with U.S. Robotics' strong brand heritage, consumer product design and distribution channel creates a powerful relationship that aggressively targets new opportunities for both companies," said Jeff Thermond, Broadcom vice president and general manager. "With this agreement U.S. Robotics can create affordable and advanced Internet access solutions."
