U.S. Robotics Certified As Member Of Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism

12.7.2004

CHICAGO – December 7, 2004 – U.S. Robotics, the world’s leading provider of Internet access and connectivity devices, is actively contributing to the security of U.S. borders and free flow of international trade. Announced today, the company recently earned C-TPAT (Customs – Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) certification from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a division of the Department of Homeland Security. C-TPAT is a joint government-business initiative to build cooperative relationships that strengthen the overall global supply chain and border security.

“With this certification, our customer base can be confident that we will receive import and export priority for a safe and more efficient delivery of U.S. Robotics products,” said Les Taylor, director, global supply chain for U.S. Robotics. “We will continue our efforts to secure our supply chain against possible compromise; communicate our efforts to our business partners; and maintain a high level of compliance in all Customs-related areas.”

As a C-TPAT member, U.S. Robotics will receive several benefits including a reduced level of cargo exams, Customs sponsored anti-terrorism training seminars and the sharing of information and best practices of other compliant companies. The program provides an entry process marked by the efficient release of goods and the prompt resolution of any outstanding issues affecting Customs processing of shipments.

To become a member, U.S. Robotics was required to ensure the integrity of its security practices and communicate the company’s security guidelines to its business partners within the supply chain. U.S. Robotics completed a Supply Chain Security Profile Commitment, reviewed by U.S. Customs; to address areas such as procedural security, physical security, personnel security, education and training, access controls, manifest procedures and conveyance security. As part of U.S. Robotics ongoing commitment, the company will develop a customized, internal, self-policing program to review its security procedures on a regular basis.
