U.S. Robotics Empowers Gamers With The Freedom Of Wireless

CHICAGO –April 7, 2004– U.S. Robotics will empower online gamers with the freedom to play wirelessly at mind-blowing speeds. Announced today, U.S. Robotics new Wireless Gaming Adapter and Ethernet Bridge allows gamers to wirelessly play anyone, anywhere. This true Plug-and-Play gaming device features 54g+ technology that delivers up to 25 percent better performance than standard 802.11g*.

With its Automatic Configuration feature, the U.S. Robotics Wireless Gaming Adapter and Ethernet Bridge simply plugs into an Ethernet enabled gaming console and automatically finds and connects to the nearest access point. This also holds true when used with any device (Digital Video Recorder, Internet appliance, Linux computer, etc.) equipped with an available Ethernet port. Moreover, its swivel dipole antenna maximizes range and throughput.

According to Jim Thomsen, senior product manager for U.S. Robotics, “Online gamers will no longer be confined by the accessibility of an Ethernet connection, because the adapter eliminates the wiring hassle and provides gamers with the flexibility of playing live from any room in the house. Also, the Wireless Adapter and Ethernet Bridge allows gamers the flexibility to connect to whatever Access Point of Wireless Router they have, 802.11g or 802.11b, at exceptional speeds to boost their overall gaming experience.”

U.S. Robotics Wireless Gaming Adapter and Ethernet Bridge (Model 5430) will be available for purchase in the United States later this month for the suggested retail price of $109. Also, the device (Model USR805430) will be available for purchase in Europe from most independent retailers and mail order outlets at an RRP of £69.99 inc. VAT.

U.S. Robotics 802.11g Wireless products provide accelerated speeds, better security and broader compatibility than standard 802.11g products. The line’s versatility and simplicity makes it easy to set up a wireless network with, or without, an existing wired network and without expensive infrastructure costs. The unique, SecureStack, modular case design of U.S. Robotics networking gear requires minimal space, so both home network users and small-to-medium size business owners alike can grow their networks with an entire family of other U.S. Robotics networking and broadband devices.

* U.S. Robotics is compliant with all 802.11g and 802.11b standards. When used with other products which support standards-based Frame Bursting, 54g+ provides up to a 25% performance improvement over standard 802.11g products. Actual performance may vary depending on operating environment and distance between networked devices.
