U.S. Robotics Teams With GlobeSpan to Build ADSL Modem

Rolling Meadows, Ill., Jan. 6, 2001 - Today U.S. Robotics announced that it will base its first DSL modem on a chipset solution from GlobeSpan, Inc. This is the first DSL product that U.S. Robotics will introduce since its separation from 3Com in September. The company plans to unveil additional DSL products over the next six months.

This first DSL device will be an Asymmetric DSL modem. It will be USB-bus powered and compatible with both G.DMT and G.lite standards.

“GlobeSpan is a leading chipset provider in the DSL marketplace,” said Christine Pomeroy, Vice President of Marketing for U.S. Robotics. “We look forward to combining our brand strength and engineering with GlobeSpan’s quality chipset to bring our first DSL product to market.”

U.S. Robotics’ ADSL modem will enable consumers and small businesses to transmit data via the Internet at speeds far greater than today’s standard 56K modem. The new ADSL modem will ship at the beginning of the second quarter 2001.

“This is a natural progression for U.S. Robotics based on its renown heritage of connecting consumers to the Internet,” said Juan Lopez, Senior Product Manager for U.S. Robotics. “The history of our company demonstrates our ability and commitment to provide our customers with reliable, quality products to help them connect to the Internet.”
