USRobotics Adds New Storage Solution for SOHO/Small Business Customers

1.5.2006

CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW/Las Vegas, Nev. (January 5, 2006) – USRobotics, a leader in Internet access and networking known for quality, innovation, and performance, announced today the addition of a network attached storage device to its lineup of storage solutions. The USR8700 Serial ATA 4-Drive Network Attached Storageappliance brings sophisticated, cost-effective and safe storage to small businesses, corporate work-groups and advanced households.

“Our network attached storage box is designed to solve a number of problems for office and home users, including document and database storage and access,” said Frank Sugino, senior product manager for USRobotics. “The USR8700 is secure, easy to use and install, and includes features not found on the market today.”

The USR8700 features four drive bays that allow customers to add more than a terabyte of storage. It comes loaded with powerful RAID hardware and software, the industry standard for safe storage across multiple drives, as well as simple to understand and use wizards. The unit supports linear storage use or allows the use of multiple drives as primary and back-up storage, along with dynamic logical drive sizing.

In addition to RAID hardware and software, the USR8700 features advanced back-up capabilities, including back-up and bare metal recovery (BBMR), in case of catastrophic failure. User and group level security settings provide a secure storage solution with no access, read only and read and write options. Folder level security settings with parental inheritance enhance the unit’s security options.

With integrated Gigabit networking and print server capability, the USR8700 delivers excellent performance, value, functionality and peace of mind while easily expanding networked storage.

Additional features of the USR8700 include:

  • Two USB 2.0 ports to connect additional external hard drives or printers;
  • Intel® IOP321 I/O processor based on Intel XScale® technology;
  • Supports remote boot operation so users can run a computer entirely from an image residing on the USR8700.

The USR8700 Serial ATA 4-Drive Network Attached Storage will be available in early 2006 for $399.99 MSRP without drives. Additional SKUs will also be available at that time with drives of varying sizes.
