USRobotics Launches First SIP-based VoIP Product at CES

CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW/Las Vegas, Nev. (January 5, 2006)– USRobotics, a leader in Internet access and networking known for quality, innovation, and performance, launched its first SIP-based VoIP product at the annual Consumer Electronics Show today. The USR9550 Wireless 802.11g 4-Port VoIP Router marks the company entrance into the SIP-based VoIP market, after its launch of instant messaging-based products in October.

“VoIP has become a reliable alternative to expensive telephone company services,” says Rizwan Akbar, USRobotics product manager. “With one billion broadband subscribers around the globe, access to the technology for VoIP has grown. An increase in demand for products to support VoIP applications can be expected in the coming months.”

With four LAN ports, one WAN port, two telephone handset ports, and one telephone line port, VoIP subscribers will now be able to take advantage of their broadband connection to power Voice and Data traffic. Users will be able to share their Internet connection without wires, secure their network with the integrated advanced firewall, and receive voice calls when registered to a VoIP service provider. The USR9550 gives service providers a reliable, easy to install and use, and secure device for installation in customer’s homes.

Fully compatible with 802.11b and g devices, the USR9550 includes Quality of Service features, WEP and WPA (TKIP and AES) wireless security, support for G.711 and G.729A voice encoding, packet loss concealment technology, and other features. The router includes PPPoE WAN, DHCP Server, and an SPI Firewall and NAT. Session Initiated Protocol voice ports include FSX (two RJ11 connections for two channels of VoIP), PSTN fallback in North America and Europe, and FXO in Europe only. VoIP features include SIP NAT traversal, provisioning support via TFTP, Caller ID, three-way conference calling, and T.38 fax.

The USR9550 is currently being tested by a number of European and North American VoIP service providers and is expected to be available in early 2006 for approximately $129.99.
