Configuring the Device Settings

In the Web User Interface, click the Device tab. In this section you can perform administrative functions.

Reboot Access Point

If the Wireless MAXg Access Point is not functioning properly, you can click Reboot to restart the access point.

Upgrade Access Point

U.S. Robotics may occasionally release new versions of firmware with new or updated features. If you want to see if there are any updates to the firmware of the Wireless MAXg Access Point, make sure you have an active Internet connection and click Check for Update. The Wireless MAXg Access Point will go to the U.S. Robotics Web site and automatically look for any updates.

If a new version is available, the new version of the firmware will be displayed. Perform the following steps to upgrade your access point:

  1. Follow the on-screen instructions to download the new firmware file and save it to your computer.
  2. Click Continue to return to the Device page and continue the upgrade process.
  3. Click Browse to locate and select the firmware file you just downloaded.
  4. After you have it selected, click Upgrade to begin the update process.
  5. When the process is complete, the access point will need to reboot and you will be prompted to click Continue after you wait about 15 seconds.

You should then see the new version of firmware listed in this area and on the Status page in the Device section. If you do not, repeat the upgrade procedure.

Back Up Settings

At any time, you can come to this area and click Back Up. This will create a file with the current settings of the Wireless MAXg Access Point. This can be useful if you are planning to make a considerable amount of changes to the various settings of the access point and want to make sure you have a safe version to revert to if you experience any problems. Make sure you place the settings file in a location that you will remember in case you need to locate it in the future.

Restore Settings

If your settings are restored to the factory defaults or if your settings are changed and the access point is not functioning properly, you can come to this area to restore your saved settings from the backup file you created. Click Browse to locate the backup settings file you previously created. When you have located it, click Restore and the settings saved within this file will be applied to the access point. If you did not create a backup file and the access point is not functioning properly, you may need to restore the factory default settings.

Factory Settings

You can erase all custom settings and restore the factory defaults to the access point by clicking Reload. Restoring factory settings can be useful if configuration changes caused the access point to stop functioning properly.

The other method to restore the factory default settings is to press in and hold the RESET button on the Wireless MAXg Access Point for between five and ten seconds. You will lose all of your personal settings if you restore the factory default settings. You might need to do this if you are unable to access the Web User Interface or have forgotten your password.
