Step 1: Prepare for installation.
Note: Before you begin, we recommend you uninstall any other modems you have in your system. Refer to your previous modem's documentation for instructions.
Write down your new USRobotics modem's serial number for future reference. The serial number is located on the white bar code sticker on the bottom of the modem and on the modem's box. If you ever need to call our Technical Support department, you will need this number to receive assistance.
Step 2: Connect the modem to the computer.
Connect the USB A to B cable to the modem and to the computer. When looking for the USB port on the back of your computer, look for ports labelled USB or with the icon . Plug the rectangle connector end of the cable into the computer's USB port; plug the square connector end into the USB port on the 56K Faxmodem USB.
Note: The power light (PWR LED) does not illuminate until the drivers are installed in Step 4.
Step 3: Connect the modem to an analog phone line.
Plug one end of the provided phone cord into the jack on the modem labelled TELCO and plug the other end into an analog phone wall jack.

Step 5: Install the ControlCenter software.
Select a language on the GUI Interface of the Installation CD. Read the license agreement and click Yes. Select the Software option from the GUI Interface on the Installation CD, select the ControlCenter option, and click Install. When the "Choose Setup Language" dialog box appears, select from the drop-down menu the language of your choice and click OK.
The ControlCenter software allows you to configure your V.92 modem settings and automatically notifies you of any updates to your modem's software. When you run ControlCenter for the first time, the software will detect your USRobotics modem. Click the icon for your modem. If you need instructions, click the link for the ControlCenter manual within the ControlCenter interface.
Note: You can reinstall the ControlCenter
software from the Installation CD, if necessary.
Step 6: Install the Internet Call Notification software.
If the interface does not appear automatically, click Windows Start and then click Run. In the "Run" dialog box, type D:\setup.exe. (If your CD-ROM drive uses a different letter, type that letter in place of "D".)
Select the Software option, select the Internet Call Notification option, and click Install. When the "Choose Setup Language" dialog box appears, select from the drop-down menu the language of your choice and click OK.
Internet Call Notification enables the V.92 feature "Modem On Hold"
which allows your Internet connection to be suspended when there is an
inbound telephone call.
Phonetools software allows you to send and receive faxes and is included as an optional piece of software for your convenience.
You must subscribe to Call Waiting service with your phone company in order to use the "Modem On Hold" enhancement.
