Step One: Mount the Hardware

The switch can be mounted on a flat surface or on an equipment rack.

Surface Mounting

Attach the rubber feet to the bottom of each smart switch. Install the switch on a sturdy, level surface that can support its weight:

Rack Mounting

You can mount the switch on an EIA standard-size, 19-inch rack.

  1. Attach a bracket to each side of the switch, and secure the brackets with the provided screws:

Step Two: Attach the Cables

  1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect any Ethernet port on the switch to the Ethernet port on a computer. The computer will be used to set the switch's IP address.

  2. Connect the power cord to the 100-240VAC port on the switch, then plug the power cord into a standard power outlet:

Step Three: Assign an IP Address to the Switch

Assigning the switch an IP Address in the same subnet as the computer enables the computer to reach the Web User Interface of the switch for further configuration.

If you are using an operating system other than Windows, assign an IP address to the switch by following the instructions For Non-Windows Users.

For Windows Users

The is the easiest way set up the switch's basic configuration (for information about other features available in the utility, see Configuration Utility). First, you need to install the utility; then you can use it to assign an IP address to the switch.

Install the

  1. Insert the USRobotics Installation CD-ROM in the CD or DVD drive.

  2. If the CD doesn't start automatically, start it manually as follows:

    1. Windows Vista: Click Windows Start > Computer.

      Windows XP: Click Windows Start > My Computer.

      Windows 2000: On the desktop, double-click My Computer.

    2. Double-click the CD drive.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the .

Assign the IP Address

  1. Click Windows Start > Programs > USRobotics > as shown below:

  2. Click Discover to find the smart switch.

  3. Click the smart switch entry to select it; then click Configure settings.

    The Configuration setting window appears:

  4. You can assign a static IP addres to the switch or configure the switch to get its address from a DHCP server.

    Setting a Static IP Address:

    1. Enter the IP Address that you want the switch to have.

    2. Enter a Gateway address of the network to which you will connect the switch.

    3. In Password, enter .

    4. Click Set:

    5. The utility confirms the configuration of the switch:

      The switch is now accessible at its new IP address.

    Using a DHCP Server:

    1. Select DHCP > Enable:

    2. In Password, enter .

    3. Click Set:

    4. The utility confirms the configuration of the switch and displays the DHCP Refresh button:

      The switch is now accessible at the IP address obtained from the DHCP server. You can use the DHCP Refresh button at any time to refresh the IP address of the switch.

Secure the Switch

USRobotics recommends that you change the password on the switch before you connect it to your network. Changing the password helps to prevent unauthorised access to the Web User Interface. Use the to change the password as follows:

  1. Click Windows Start > Programs > USRobotics > to start the utility.

  2. Click Discovery to find the smart switch.

  3. Double-click the switch entry to move it to the Monitor List.

  4. Click the smart switch entry in the Monitor List.

  5. Click Change password.

  6. Enter the current password; then enter the new password in both New password and Confirm password; click Set:

For Non-Windows Users

Assign the IP Address through the Web User Interface

  1. Set the IP address on your computer to an address in subnet 192.168.0.0.

  2. Start a Web browser and go to the following address: .

    The Web User Interface of the smart switch displays the login page:

  4. ) and click Login.

  5. On the menu bar, click System Setting.

    The system setting page appears:

  6. In this step, when you change the IP address of the switch to a different subnet, you will lose connection to the switch from your computer.

    Enter the new IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway, and click Apply.

    To re-establish a connection with the switch, change the IP address of the computer to one that is in the same subnet as the new IP address of the switch.

Secure the Switch

USRobotics recommends that you change the password on the switch before you connect it to your network. Changing the password helps to prevent unauthorised access to the Web User Interface. Change the password as follows:

  1. Make sure that the IP address on your computer is in the same subnet as the switch.

  2. Start a Web browser and go to the IP address of the switch.

  3. Enter the password (the default password is ) and click Login.

  4. On the menu bar, click Password Setting.

    The password setting screen appears:

  5. Enter the Old Password (the default password is ).

  6. Type the new password in both New Password and Re-type New Password and click Apply.
