Purpose

Use this Bulletin to determine if your system's PC Card controller is configured for Windows 95 and Windows 98. This way, you will know if you need to make changes to it in order to install your PC Card. It may also explain why your PC Card has been unrecognized when you have attempted to install it.

    Note:
    Our Applications Engineers do not have the data to help you configure your system's PC Card Controller. You will need to contact your system manufacturer for that.

Check Your Controller

  1. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click your PC Card icon.

  3. Refer to the table below.

    If... ...then...
    ...you have no PC Card icon ...contact your system manufacturer.
    ...a PC Card installation wizard comes up ...follow the prompts and go to the section of this Bulletin labeled Check Device Manager.
    ...a PC Card Properties window comes up but it is blank ...contact your system manufacturer.
    ...a PC Card Properties window comes up and shows the sockets ...your controller is installed properly.

Check Device Manager

  1. Restart your system, power off and then on.

  2. Insert your PC Card.

  3. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.

  4. Double-click System.

  5. Click Device Manager and inspect its list for a red X or a yellow excalamation point! at the PCMCIA Socket or Bridge.
If... ...then...
...you have a red X Highlight the controller and click on Properties. Under "Device Usage" ensure that the controller is enabled.
...you have yellow exclamation point! ...contact your system manufacturer.
...you do not locate a red X or a yellow exclamation point! ...Windows has recognized your PC Card controller and you do not need to make changes to your system.
