Question:
My modem returns a "No Dialtone" error message no matter which phone cord or phone jack I try and use. What should I do?
Answer:
3Com Megahertz modems will give a "No Dialtone" error message when a phone line is not attached to the modem. It may also respond "No Dialtone" if you are plugged into a PBX or a Digital phone line. Please try using a different cord and different wall outlet, while making sure you are using a regular analog phone line. If you have voice messaging from your phone company, this can also cause the NO DIALTONE message. When you have pending messages you will have an intermittant dialtone. The modem cannot recognize this as a valid dialtone. Retrieve your pending messages from your voice messaging service to solve this problem. If the modem still responds with "No Dialtone", then there may be a problem with the XJack, or with the internal circuitry on the modem itself. In either case, we would be happy to repair the modem for you under warranty. Please call us at (800) 638 -3266. We will further assist you from this point.
