What is the difference between a Power Adapter and a Power Cable?

Power varies depending on how the adpater is getting its power:

  • Bus Power without additional power: total of 300 mA
  • Bus Power with provided power cable (shown in picture): total of 800 mA
  • Bus Power with external 5V DC 2.0 A power adapter (not included with the product): 900 mA per port

The ExpressCard comes provided with a power cable. This cable plugs into the side of the adapter and also into an available USB port, getting the power from the additional 2.0 USB port. A power adapter is an external power supply, not included with the product, that can provide an additional 100mA above the cable if needed.
